Dear Fred, Stop Hurting People.

Dear Fred, Stop Hurting People.

It’s time for an intervention : (

Dear Fred, as your friend for thirty years, I have watched helplessly as your drinking has slowly eroded your ability to function in all areas of your life.

Hurt people go on to hurt others, and this is certainly true with you, Fred.

You have experienced a lifetime of alcohol abuse, which is captured in the photo above. This photo was taken of us at the Athens Museum while we were looking at pictures of you from the early days —look at the suffering on your face, Fred. It's only gotten worse; your drinking has progressed to the point that it has hurt everyone I love and care about.

Your drinking is the root cause of all our organization's problems and the harm caused to our friends, artists, musicians, and the non-profit community we agreed to support. Your drinking has affected your memory so much that you claimed we never had an agreement, even though you were there in person, co-wrote it, signed it with a notary, and then gave interviews to the press about it.

Later, you claimed you don't remember hurting the numerous people who have come forward to talk about the unwanted repeated advancements they experienced by you. These are our friends and allies who came to work and support our organization and then found themselves being harassed by someone they admired and trusted; it was the ultimate betrayal of trust, Fred.

People overcome bad things that happen to them all the time, but what made these recent events so traumatic for people, including myself, was your malevolence. Your actions came with no warning—utter shock—aggressive legal intimidations, and a desire to destroy the organization and take away all the work and money people have contributed to Breyting over the last 15 years without any explanation or care for others.

You are willing to sacrifice everyone and everything as long as you are not held accountable for your actions. Dammit, brother, your alcoholism has caused memory gaps and changes in your behavior, and it has had a devastating effect on all our lives.

Please end this conflict peacefully and work with me to help heal the people hurt by this conflict.
